Sunscreen in Winter???
I am writing about a sunscreen in winter because this may come as a surprise that your skin needs protection even when the temperature is low. We tend to go easy on sunscreen once the cooler season arrives but you absolutely need sun protection even during the winter because unlike majority of us, sun is not lazy during winter and keeps on releasing harmful rays just as strong and damaging like it does during rest of the year.
Before I start on the product I would like to make sure that you know the difference between a sunscreen and a sunblock. Sunscreens are the chemical kind that penetrates the skin and absorbs the harmful rays before they reaches and damages your dermal layer. Main ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Sunblock are physical kind that sits on top of the skin acting as a barrier between your skin and damaging rays by reflecting or scattering light. Sunblocks shield against UVB rays, while sunscreens protect against UVA. You can read more about them from oncosec, here. Lets talk about the product now.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock
Like the majority of us I too was ignorant about applying sunscreen/sunblock on a daily basis. It was mainly due to the aftereffects of applying such product, such as sweating, feeling of heaviness and oiliness. Gradually I learned about the benefits and started trying out various types until I found the one which is now my current favorite.
Neutrogena Ultra sheer dry touch sunblock SPF 50+ (PA +++) is a breakthrough in sun protection. Stabilized with Helioplex™ Technology it provides superior balanced broad spectrum against skin aging UVA and burning UVB rays and combines it with Dry Touch Technology for an ultra light, non shiny finish. This light weight sun block has a light fresh scent and is gentle enough even for sensitive skin.
- Waterproof, sweatproof, resist rub-off
- Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)
- Oil free and PABA free
Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ PA+++ comes in a sturdy, white and sky blue squeezy type plastic bottle. The opening is of average size and comes sealed with a sliver foil for the first-time users. It has a tiny nozzle which dispenses adequate amount of product. The tube mentions all the necessary details like claims, date of expiry etc. The cap of the tube is tight enough to make it convenient to take with you during travel.
It is white and creamy. A small amount covers a large area and though it may appear slightly thick in consistency is actually really soft and very light on skin. When I first used it, I felt it’d be too heavy for my combination skin but it gets absorbed very easily into the skin. The Neutrogena Sunblock gives a matte finish and the shininess fades away after a short period. It does not make my skin look greasy or oily.
We are all very well aware with the Indian summer. It can be really harsh at times and so is in winter too. I use this sunblock all over my body including my face too. Although you might use multiple products with spf in it but try to include regular sunblock or sunscreen as another step in your daily makeup routine. I am too lazy to reapply and my skin is the type that gets tanned very very easily and I have clearly seen reduction in tanning after applying it. It does not at all makes me sweat more and also does not leave my skin feeling oily. There is a very light floral fragrance, which fades away within 15 to 20 minutes of application. The best part about this sunblock is that it does not leave the whitish cast like most others. It does not give complete matte finish but leaves a dewy kind of finish which I totally approve of. I never felt stickiness after applying it. That is why I love this product.
