You will find many articles on the Internet on the benefits of drinking lemon water. They are the reason I started drinking it first thing in the morning every day till it became a habit. Hence, I have decided to write another one so that one of you can get inspired like I did. This is not going to be a tough job to make it a habit. It is just another positive thing that you will love to include in your life. I will start from the basics.
How to Prepare Lemon Water?
It is absolutely easy. You just need a cup of warm water and a lemon/lime (around 2 tablespoons) and that’s it. It can not get simpler than that. You can drink this at any time of the day but better if you drink it in the morning on empty stomach.
Although there are variations of it which I will share in the latter part of the article. Once you make the basic one a habit, you will love to try others along with it.
Why drink Lemon Water?
Although I started this habit to see if all the claims associated with lemon water was true. Actually, there is another reason as well. And it was to keep off some extra weight the natural way, if possible. To be honest I did not find any difference immediately but was surprised to feel a positive energy that it gives in the long run. It has been more than 6 months now that I am drinking lemon water and many of its variants.
It’s no secret that lemon is full of vitamins and other nutrients, but I don’t think people are aware of how a small change in their lifestyle can work wonders. I am actually excited to be able to share the goodness of this drinks with you all so that you can reap the benefits as well.
If you search for the list of benefits for drinking lemon water then you will get innumerable results but it was only a few for me that actually I love to believe in. Below are the 7 main reason why I wanted to include lemon water as a healthy lifestyle choice.
Should you Try Lemon Water Variants?
When I started, I first tried with the basic and well known, Lemon Honey Water concoction. No doubt, honey is also good for your health and provides many benefits. But, I realized that Honey is just another form of sugar, I started slowly reducing the amount to finally removing it. And, so I started drinking just Lemon and Water.
Now, there are few confusions that you may face when you start drinking it. Such as, should you drink it with warm water or cold, is it better to drink in morning or night, etc. Do not worry, I will try to clear as many doubts as I can. Even after that, if you’ve any more then you can always comment below.
1. Lemon Honey Water: This is the most common which you must have already heard about. You just need to add half spoonful of honey (better if organic) along with the half a slice of lime/lemon in 250 ml of warm water. When you’re adding honey, you’re adding calories to the drink which is otherwise calorie-free.
2. Lemon Ginger Water: I just love ginger and adding it to lemon water for me was just an experiment. You will have to grate the ginger or else, if you like ginger julienne then that’s great as well.
3. Lemon Cinnamon Water: Cinnamon is another great spice to have when you love a bit spicy and sweet flavor. Cinnamon offers a number of benefits to your health, including anti-inflammatory properties and improved blood sugar and heart health.
You can have variants of it but I like these 3 simple variants as they are quicker to prepare. Now, coming to one basic question, should you have lemon water as warm or cold.
If you’re drinking it as a habit in the morning/night, then it is always recommended to go for warm water. If you’re planning to reap benefits over the whole day, then you can always rather go for fruit infused water. You can read about that in another post that I wrote, here.
What is the best time to drink lemon water?
I started with drinking in the morning. Once it became a habit, now I have included the same before going to bedtime routine. I have always liked sour and having lemon water at the end of the day makes me feel a little bit guilt-free for having all the unwanted food the whole day. In brief, lemon-water first thing in the morning will help to begin the rehydration process and boost your metabolism(very important for those that are trying to drop a few pounds). Lemon water as the last thing in the night will help the digestive system and will make your intestines a bit happier.
