Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate | Review

Kiehl’s is an American brand created in 1851 by a New York pharmacist, John Kiehl. The company changed owners several times before becoming part of the L’Oréal group in 2000. Of course, L’Oréal helped the brand improve its global development and Kiehl’s now has many more points of sale worldwide, including more than 300 stores under its own name.

The Kiehl’s brand concept is “to offer its customers effective formulas developed with the most advanced technologies and highly concentrated natural ingredients.” It’s something you often hear at the moment with skincare brands: technology (guarantee of efficiency and modernity) based on nature (for the authentic touch).

What Kiehl’s says about it?

A replenishing nighttime facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning.

  • Regenerates, repairs, and replenishes skin for smoother, healthier skin
  • Works with the skin’s natural nocturnal activity – when skin is most receptive to repairing itself from daily aggressors – to dramatically restore skin
  • 8% naturally-derived and paraben-free oil for face
  • A customer favorite

How to Apply?

-Apply 2-3 drops of treatment on cleansed skin
-Gently press fingertips to cheeks, forehead, and chin to evenly distribute the application before gently massaging it into the skin
-Can wear alone or under moisturizer

Evening Primrose Oil is an effective on skin barrier repair and boosting radiance.

Lavender Essential Oil helps soothe inflamed or irritated skin while helping reduce skin blotchiness for a more even look. Creates a brighter and more radiant look to skin.

A signature Kiehl’s ingredient, Squalane is a botanical lipid that is similar in molecular structure to natural skin lipids. It has an exceptional affinity to skin, and because it’s easily absorbed, Squalane helps restore skin’s natural moisture balance to keep it extra soft and supple.

Rest of the ingredients are: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Coriander Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Lavender Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Linalool, Rosemary Leaf Oil, Citronellol, Geraniol, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Cucumber Fruit Extract, Turmeric Root Extract, Limonene, Citral, Sclareolide, Rose Flower Oil, Jasmine Extract, Sunflower Seed Oil.

This is a blue glass bottle with a pipette, which is very retro. A real pharmacist vial from last century! On the practical side, the dark blue glass packaging allows to preserve the formula which contains many vegetable oils. Obviously, it isn’t ideal if you’re clumsy (like me). But miraculously, I haven’t let it fall in my sink … I’ve probably been lucky! 😉 I’m quite a fan of the pipette system, which I find convenient to distribute the right amount of product but you have to be a bit careful.

This is a very fine oil that is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving it shiny. Even on my oily skin, I don’t feel it is greasy at all.

A very botanical scent with a strong lavender scent. I personally love it but be warned if you prefer more neutral scents…
I personally love smelling lavender before going to sleep, I find it very relaxing! 😉

My Experience

You are meant to use 2-3 drops on cleansed skin, and you are supposed to gently press it on your skin before massaging it in. I love applying this right before bed, and it’s made it into my little “bedside beauty stash”. The little jar feels lush and makes me feel just a little bit special, plus it smells divine. I think of it as a double treatment; the treatment itself, on your face, but also giving me almost aromatherapy affects. The lavender oil stands out to me above all others in the scent, and that makes it absolutely perfect as a before-bed treat, since lavender is my favorite sleepy-time scent. This product just makes me feel expensive and luxurious, and because of that it’s worth its weight in gold, in my opinion.

It’s Rs. 3800/-, which is absolutely worth it if you like the way this sounds. I highly recommend it. It’s meant for all skin types, and will work wonders for the “glow” of your skin. Order it on Kiehl’s website, if you want to try new samples; they have more sample offerings than I’ve ever experienced. Literally there were seventy-one options as of writing this post – that’s insane! You get to select 3 with your purchase, and I could see myself spending ages deciding what to try; it’s like a shopping haul in and of itself!

The result was very obvious at the beginning. I definitely see that my skin looks better when I wake up, it’s more radiant. I don’t really have less acne but I have found that the product accelerates the healing of my acne scars, which is pretty amazing!

My dehydrated areas look better than before. It feels more comfortable and I’ve noticed an improvement in the aspect of my skin but it was in the long term (after 3 months). So if your skin is ultra dehydrated, I think it would be better to rely on stronger (more potent) treatments such as moisturizing serum and a good intensive moisturizing face mask! 😉

– the retro packaging
– the fine oil texture, quickly absorbed
– for all types of skins
– the lavender scent, very relaxing
– the result of “luminous skin” when you wake up
– it heals the acne scars quicker
– the lifetime of this product: it lasts almost indefinitely 😉

– the fragile glass packaging, not for clumsy people
– the plant scent is quite strong and won’t to everybody’s liking
– it’s more of a product that preserves the youth of the skin than a real anti-aging product.

Does Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Works?

The answer is Yes!

I have combination dry skin, which is also acne prone. Few weeks back, by accident I applied quite a lot of tea tree oil on my chin area and it made my skin pretty flaky and dry. Although I was very sad and scared but I got the chance to check the efficiency of the MRC. For two night, I applied Kiehl’s MRC concentrating on the dry area without any night cream or moisturizer, and by the third morning, my skin returned back to normal and super hydrated. I am truly happy with the product.

p.s. my roommate has super sensitive skin and was in search of a serum. I suggested her Kiehl’s MRC and it has been almost 1 month that she has been using it religiously and is super happy too.

I would be more than happy to hear your thoughts. If you have any question then comment below.
